Stand in solidarity with us as we continue to raise funds for Black and Indigenous communities.
Indigo Arts Alliance Mentor Artist-in-Residence, Sonya Clark is bringing the Solidarity Book Project to Maine. Led by Sonya, Professor of Art and Art History at Amherst College, Indigo Arts Alliance will be hosting THE LAST Solidarity Book Project workshop. This hybrid in-person/virtual workshop is a call to center Amherst College’s Bicentennial celebration on creating a more equitable future. By pushing against legacies of settler colonialism and anti-Black racism, this workshop speaks to the power of books to create spaces for social justice.
Participants will sculpt the iconic solidarity fist into Chanda Prescod-Weinstein’s book, The Disordered Cosmos or a book of their choice (must be at least 280 pages long) that speaks to solidarity. As a monument to solidarity, workshop attendees’ artworks can be included in the Solidarity Book Project exhibition at Amherst College’s Library in August – December 2021. AND for every book submitted, Amherst is providing a matching grant of $200. The funds raised from this project will benefit nonprofits serving the educational needs of Black and Indigenous communities, but the only way to qualify is to submit your finished book for the exhibition.
This workshop is open and free to the public and offers a hybrid approach. If you are interested in attending this program in-person at the Indigo Arts Alliance studio or virtually, please click on the following link to register as space is limited:
